A video competition for schools and colleges across the UK
Maths Miniatures is a competition giving students the opportunity to work together to produce a short video on a mathematical topic, helping to develop their collaboration skills.
Teams of two to six students from Years 7-13 (England and Wales), S1-S6 (Scotland) and Years 8-14 (Northern Ireland) were invited to participate.
The topic of this year's competition was: Mathematics in Sport.
How do I take part?
The competition is aimed students from schools and colleges based in the UK. All entries must be made by registered UKMT centres, not individual students or their parents.
Teams must register to participate by Friday 29 March 2019. Entries for this year's competition are now closed.
Teams must submit videos according to the instructions given at registration by Monday 22 July 2019.
Terms and Conditions
Entries must come from a registered UKMT centre based in the United Kingdom. Find out more about registering as a UKMT centre.
The competition is open to teams of students in Years 7-13 (England and Wales), S1-S6 (Scotland) and Years 8-14 (Northern Ireland).
Each team must be made up of two to six students.
Only one entry per centre is allowed (if more are submitted we will only consider the first).
To participate, schools and colleges must register their interest by completing the online form by 29 March 2019.
There is no charge for entering the competition.
The Competition Task
The video must be no longer than three minutes and explore the topic of Mathematics in Sport.
Each team is responsible for all planning and content of their video. Help from adults can be given with filming and editing, but this must be declared in the final credits.
The video should include a clear explanation of the mathematics involved. The end credits should reference any sources used in creating the video.
The judges' decision is final.
Members of the winning and highly-commended teams will receive a prize, and all participants will receive certificates.
Winners and runners-up will be notified by email to the registering teacher in September. The videos will be listed on the MathsWorldUK website and added to the UKMT YouTube channel.
The video should be submitted by 22 July 2019 using YouTube. Details on submission will be provided following registration of entry.
Participants must ensure their video does not breach any English law, including laws concerning intellectual property.
Change of contact
