Promoting a love of problem solving, and celebrating 25 years of the UKMT!

The 25th Anniversary Challenge is an online, 45-minute, multiple-choice Challenge.

It encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems.

The problems on the 25th Anniversary Challenge are designed to make students think. Most are accessible, yet still challenge those with more experience.

Preparing for the Challenge

We hope that taking part in the 25th Anniversary Challenge is a stimulating and rewarding experience for all students, whether or not they have prepared.

Try the 25th Anniversary Practice Challenge here! - Students do not need to log in to sit the practice Challenge.

You can also utilise our previous Junior Mathematical Challenge online Challenges, download past papers, solutions and investigations here. They are a great resource containing high-quality problems aimed at the same age group, designed to encourage mathematical thinking and prepare students for the Challenge. We are also delighted to be working with DrFrostMaths to help teachers use past problems in the classroom.

We also sell downloadable past papers and books which can help with your preparation.

Scoring rules for the 25th Anniversary Challenge are as follows:

  • 1 mark is awarded for each correct answer.
  • 0 marks are awarded for all blank or incorrect answers.
  • In the 25th Anniversary Challenge you will NOT lose marks for getting questions wrong

Awards and Follow-on rounds

All participating students will receive a bespoke certificate. Certificates are pre-populated with student names and can be downloaded and printed as soon as results are released.

There is no follow-on-round from the 25th Anniversary Challenge, however if your student enjoyed this Challenge we would recommend them to take part in the Junior Mathematical Challenge (JMC). This is an annual Challenge with 25, multiple choice questions, much like this Challenge, and can be sat either on paper or online. The JMC is aimed at the same age group, and you can try out some of their past papers here.

Contributing to our work

As a charity, we do not make a profit from entry fees. We spend all the money we raise on advancing the education of young people in mathematics. If you would like to support us further then please consider making a donation.

Our volunteers are at the heart of everything UKMT does, from creating the Challenges to running our Enrichment activities. If you would like to find out more about volunteering with us please do get in touch.
